Regular public meeting of the group that monitors development in the Waterloo area.
The future of Waterloo Millennium Green and Waterloo Green Trust with Catherine Grieg (Waterloo Green Trust) and Helen Firminger (Bankside Open Spaces Trust).
WCDG initiated the Millennium Green project in 1997, establishing Waterloo Green Trust in 2000 to manage Waterloo's newly opened Green. Waterloo Green Trust (WGT) have gone on to develop projects at Hatfields, Ufford Street Recreation Ground, and on Tanswell Estate, as well as establish and lead the Waterloo Open Spaces Partnership. However, with no funding from Lambeth Council for their work, the long-term sustainability of WGT has proved a serious issue.
WGT are now in discussion with Bankside Open Spaces Trust (BOST) with regard to an amalgamation and the new larger organisation taking over the management of Millennium Green. BOST currently run around 12 projects in north Southwark including Mint Street park. They have 5 staff and have had a financial turnover of between 200,000 and 500,000 in recent years.
What will this mean to Millennium Green and other open spaces in Waterloo? Come and hear their proposals and have your say.
