The London Fire Brigade Museum is located in Winchester House which was home and workplace to London's chief fire officers between 1878 and 1937.
The building now houses the museum's exhibits which tell the story of firefighting in London from the Great Fire of 1666 to today.
Part of the collection is located in the appliance room of the original Southwark Fire Station.
The LFB Museum open day will enable visitors to see these exhibits without having to book on a tour as is usually required.
Museum staff and volunteers will answer queries and provide further information for visitors researching family members that served in the Metropolitan or London Fire Brigades.
The museum was threatened with closure last year but after a vigourous campaign it won a reprieve.
