Community Film Club

To celebrate the Community Film Club's 5th birthday Tate is working with artist collective They Are Here. Over three months the club is offering the opportunity to watch films that reveal glimpses of what's involved in making a film, the role of the audience and how things might change as part of that process.

Tonight: A series of artist films that look at the roles of audience, viewer and artist/director.

• The Girl Chewing Gum, John Smith. Discover how an artist has played with fottage of an everyday scene in London through the clever use of voiceover.

• Taste of Shirin, Hamideh Razavi. Shirin is a film told through the faces of its audience, their smiles and tears. This 'making of' documentary shows how the director Abbas Kiarostami worked with the cast to create this film solely from their reactions.

• Teatro Amazonas, Sharon Lockhart. See how an audience of ordinary people in Brazil become the content of a film. Invited by the artist to come to a local cinema, they watch a blank screen - the film reveals their reactions as this process unfolds.
