Amazing!

Inspired by the controversial Starsuckers film by Chris Atkins about celebrity, a group of children from Kingsmead and Southgate Schools in Edmonton are taking over The Scoop this week.

The students ranging in age from 13 to 18 have invited members of the London Assembly to attend the performance and take part in a forum which they have devised in conjunction with the playwright Ashmeed Sohoye and theatre director Corinne Micallef.

Part politics part performance, Amazing! re-creates the idea of theatre as a means to public debate and as a creative response to the major issues of the day. It takes its inspiration from the Ancient Greeks.

The issue of the day that the young people of North London were most interested in was celebrity. Not solely because they all wanted to be famous but because they also felt they could see its negative side. Their attraction to celebrity and conversely the pressure to become famous is what the play and the debate are built around.

Members of the London Assembly and celebrities have been invited to join the children and the general public to in a vibrant discussion about this hottest of topics.
