Family History Day

Have you ever wondered how the Blitz affected your family? What role did your ancestors play in the war on the home front? And how can the effects of the raids still be seen in our cities today?

Family History Day gives visitors the opportunity to speak to museum experts and other organisations about tracing your family history, with a special focus this November on your Blitz connections. Between September 1940 and May 1941 over 43,000 civilians were killed as the Luftwaffe began night bombing raids against London and other British cities including Coventry, Manchester and Bristol.

A series of special lectures will off in-depth advice, while experienced family historians or those just starting out can drop in to the Explore History Centre, a new space where anyone can explore the museum’s Collections, for tips on how to uncover your past.

Enthusiasts can also bring along photos, medals, documents and more to find out more about their family and get advice on how to care for precious heirlooms.
