Share with us your knowledge and indulge in a bit of reminiscing over a cuppa at your local library. We've all heard of Lambeth Walk but what was it really like in its heyday?
Lambeth Walk was known across London as a dynamic working class neighbourhood, with a vibrant daily street market frequented by the Pearly Kings and Queens, and with a huge variety of shops, including pie & mash shops, and 5 pubs. During WW2 the area was severely bombed and changed hugely with the street market disappearing, shops becoming vacant and many of the working class customs and traditions lost.
Do you remember how Lambeth Walk was? Have you done the "Lambeth Walk"? Can you remember the song?
Spread the Word, an arts organisation based on Lambeth Walk, want to know – share your memories with their project – My Old China - to capture the real Lambeth Walk. All welcome.
