We’re looking for a dynamic candidate to join us in London’s Southbank arts community. You will understand the joy of dance and help us promote the excellence of our conservatoire higher education alongside a wide range of activities from the Ballet Central tour to programmes for our neighbours in Southwark.

Job Purpose

To build the brand of Central School of Ballet and extend its reach through creative marketing, branding activities, social media and online publishing.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

The Marketing and Social Media Officer plays a key role in creatively sharing and communicating Central School of Ballet’s passion for dance. We want to increase our profile and connections with the dance world at a local, national, and international level, whilst engaging with our neighbourhood communities in Southwark and beyond.

General
•Work with the senior team to create annual marketing plans and develop strategies to achieve the school’s overall objectives.
•Assist in the management of the external image of the brands of Central School of Ballet and Ballet Central.
•Implement and execute internal and external marketing strategies and communications projects across all brands.
•Deliver plans to promote all facets of the school including HE student recruitment and development, and non HE programmes internally and through external agencies.
•Create and co-ordinate marketing and communications materials across the business; including working with students and other stakeholders
•Actively support Central’s commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, ensuring marketing and communications reflects our ambitions of removing barriers to access.
•Keep marketing materials updated, including in house print and the website (managed through WordPress).
•Assist with internal communications activities, including organisation of weekly staff briefings.
Digital and Social Media
•Create and edit copy and design material seeking internal sign off.
•Create and post social media and web content in line with the marketing strategy and engage with the community of followers, developing ideas on how to generate more engagement across the campaign.
•Generate news content for Central’s online news pages, monthly newsletter, and social media feeds based on school activities, and monitor social media channels.

Ballet Central
•Assist in developing the creative approach for the Ballet Central tour including liaising with external agencies.
•Co-ordinate the production of all print materials and programmes.
•Liaise with all regional venues regarding marketing of each performance.
•Organise and administer photo shoots.
•Prepare cast sheets for tour venues.
•Support all PR activities to boost ticket sales.
•Create weekly ticket sales reports

Press and PR
•Assist with all aspects of Public Relations including managing enquiries from the media
•Monitor press cuttings – distribute as appropriate, keep cuttings filed and maintain the archive.
•Assist with photography and filming enquiries and image requests.
Events
•Assist, support and attend events and performances as required.
•Support the Communications Consultant with all aspects of PR events administration and planning.
•If and when required, greet and look after guests and visitors to the School.

Research
•Conduct research as required for marketing and communications purposes.

Administration
•Carry out marketing related administration tasks.
•Monitor the website and general in-boxes every day
•Monitor the Communications and Ballet Central communications budgets
•Maintain plans, calendars and appointments
•Track projects and file media exposure
•Update any relevant databases and contact lists

General
•Adhere to the School policies, procedures, and guidelines.
•Contribute to the operating values and ethos of the School as determined in its mission statement.
•Exercise discretion/confidentiality in business, personnel, and financial matters externally, particularly regarding press/media and potential competitors.
•To undertake other administrative tasks as required, including reception cover if needed.
•To work occasional evenings/weekends when needed, and in particular to work evenings and weekends for the July School Show Graduation week (for which time off in lieu will be provided).

Person description

Person Specification
ESSENTIAL
•A passion for dance
•Able to demonstrate previous success in creation of social media content
•1 year experience in a workplace
•Experience of at least one of the following: PR/media relations, marketing, administration, events, communications campaigns (including print, advertising, and digital communications) and promoting to ticket-buying audiences.
•Experience of social media, WordPress (essential) and MailChimp (desirable), Canva (essential), along with image and video editing experience (desirable).
•Excellent communications skills and good EQ.
•IT skills (database and Excel in particular).
•Strong communication skills with a high level of spoken and written English.
•Numeracy skills, research skills, analytical skills.
•Ability to multi-task in a busy environment with good organisation skills.
•Interest in arts/performing arts and dance/higher education.

DESIRABLE
•Experience of working in a communications department in-house or in a communications
or PR agency.
•Willingness to learn, accuracy/attention to detail, tact and good people skills, patience,
•collaborative and a good team player, ability to take the initiative, flexibility, desire to build a career in arts/education communications.
