Annual allowance of £1,061 plus subsistence and travel expenses
Use your knowledge, experience and judgement to ensure high standards of conduct among Southwark’s councillors. All it takes is an independent and analytical mind, and the ability to make clear and reasoned decisions.
Joining the council’s standards committee, you’ll be one of five independent members with full voting rights who sit alongside seven councillors. You will discuss issues of conduct and ethics, offer advice and training, and investigate and examine allegations of breaches of conduct.
You'll need excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively, impartially and tactfully with sensitive and confidential matters. Although you must have good knowledge of the local area, it's important that you have not been a member or officer or Southwark Council during the last five years and that you're not a relative or close friend of any current member or officer. In addition, you must not work for any other local authority or have any unspent criminal convictions. It's essential that you're over 21 and a British, Commonwealth or EU citizen.
