About this role

Eclectic Productions, a community media company, is looking for an experienced and inspirational Communication and Discussion Skills Facilitator to help deliver an inter faith and inter generational project in South East London, starting early December until the end of March 2010.

The aim of the project is to improve understanding and relationships between different faith communities and generations in Southwark, breaking down internal and external prejudices through debating and discussion.

The Facilitator will engage Muslim and non Muslim adults from Southwark, training them in communication skills (presenting, debating, interviewing) and encourage them to express their views using radio as a platform to be heard by the wider community. By the end of the project, the inter faith adult group will discuss issues raised with a group of Muslim young people.

Responsibilities:

- To proactively engage Muslim and non Muslim adults in the project, developing strong links with community groups;
- To plan, develop and deliver training sessions in communication skills
- (discussion, debating and presentation skills) to a high standard;
- To facilitate group discussions;
- To monitor participants’ engagement and progress, evaluating sessions and preparing session evaluations;
- Any administrative duties related to project delivery;
- To analyse information and prepare a final report;
- Working with a Support Worker, who will support the media aspect of the project;
- To deliver the project within the specified timeframe;

Person description

Essential skills and qualifications:

- Proven track record in engaging culturally diverse communities, encouraging them to participate in dialogue using participatory facilitation methods;
- Experience of engaging and training Muslim and non Muslim faith groups;
- Proven ability to plan and deliver communication and debating workshops;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Relevant professional qualification (e.g. journalist, community outreach facilitator, debating, etc);
- Experienced in monitoring and evaluation and report preparation;
- Current CRB enhanced Disclosure

Eclectic Productions offer a freelance contract and competitive rates of pay according to experience.
