21 hours per week/12 month contract

About this role

This part time post is based in Bermondsey and covers Southwark and surrounding areas.
We provide a culturally specific service therefore, knowledge and understanding of issues facing
elderly Irish people living in an inner city is required.

Responsibilities:

•To provide a high standard befriending service for elderly Irish people in Southwark and surrounding areas which is relevant to each client and culturally specific
•To ensure that volunteers are equipped with relevant training and/or expertise
•To maintain and develop effective monitoring and evaluation systems including informal feedback from volunteers, the clients they befriend and carers, family and professionals involved
•To provide line management for 2 part time community support workers

Experience of working with volunteers
Experience of successful project development
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Knowledge of issues affecting older Irish people
Experience of leading and organizing a team of people, paid or unpaid
Excellent organisational skills
Skills and Abilities

Ability to form good relationships with volunteers
Good negotiating skills
Ability to self motivate and to motivate others
Ability to critically evaluate the effectiveness of a service
Effective and efficient time management

About Southwark Irish Pensioners Project

Southwark Irish Pensioners Project (SIPP) is based in Bermondsey, offering day and community based services to over 400 elderly Irish people in Southwark and surrounding area. As our members age, they are less able to access the day service but it's imprtant to them to be involved ion their own community which is why our volunteer befriending scheme is so important.
