Market Assistant

I’m looking for someone to work on the stand at Borough for two, possibly three days a week. The job is primarily dealing with customers, and then all the other stuff that goes to make up a busy central London food retail environment.

We are looking at expanding the business a little bit, so there might be other opportunities going forward.

You must have experience of working in a fine food environment

At a push, encyclopedic knowledge of the products will make up for a lack of direct experience

You must be enthusiastic, ambitious and interested

Conversational Italian would be useful, but is not essential. As would a clean driving license.

Direct experience of food retail environments and/or food markets also useful, but not essential

I’ve sold Parma Ham and Mozzarella on the Market for years from a market stall. I have just opened a fabulous little stand/shop at the entrance to the Market. We have expanded into a slightly wider range of salumi and stretched curd cheeses. We are really busy - we need help.

In one sense, it’s just a ‘market assistant’ type job. But for the right person, I think I can offer some interesting opportunities if you are interested in building a career in this sector. Alternatively, Borough Market is simply a wonderful place to work!
