Assistant Technician

£6.31 per hour for under-21 year olds. £8.80 per hour for over-21 year olds

About this role


• To pick up litter and remove other environmental mess as directed by the Technician
• To assist the Technician in providing multi trade services in any of the Vauxhall One offices, member businesses of Vauxhall One and in the Vauxhall One area as directed.
• To remove graffiti from Vauxhall One members’ premises, having obtained permission and signed disclaimer from the business concerned.
• To assist the Technician in checking that Lambeth Streetcare, street lighting and waste collection contractors have fulfilled all obligations in their schedules and draft reports of shortcomings to the Technician.
• To undertake audits of changes required to the schedule, logging date and time of incidents where services appear deficient and produce monthly reports, identifying trends.
• To clean up one-off dirt deposits in streets and pedestrian tunnels, using specialist equipment provided.
• To report overflowing litter bins to Lambeth Streetcare, bag and flag the overspill.
• To assist the Technician when operating deep cleaning and chewing gum removal equipment safely in public areas.
• To arrange furniture for Vauxhall One events and activities on request of Technician.
• To wear Vauxhall one branded and protective uniform at all times.


Person description

Education and Qualifications

• 3 GCSEs or equivalent
• Drivers Licence desirable

Knowledge relevant to the job

• Knowledge of the Vauxhall area

Experience relevant to the job

• Basic Do-It-Yourself
• Involvement with community, educational or sporting activities
• Volunteering

Skills & Abilities

• Basic Do-it-Yourself skills
• Fit enough to litter pick out of doors in all weathers
• Resilient enough to work in view of the public
• Well organised and able to work proactively, systematically and, on occasions, independently
• Good communication skills, including the ability to write and speak clearly and courteously
• Able to follow Health & Safety procedures and practices
• Able to log incidents and compile simple reports on a computer
• Cycling proficiency (full driving licence desirable)
• Able to climb ladders safely and work at height

• Vauxhall One is open to employing on a full-time or a part-time basis, depending on the appointee’s other commitments. However a minimum of sixteen hours per week (maximum of 40 hours a week) will be required. Working hours may need to be flexible, according to the needs of the organisation, and will usually include Saturday and Sunday working.

About Vauxhall One

Vauxhall One is the 27th Business Improvement District (BID) in London. It was approved at ballot on 24th February 2012 and will operate for five years before requiring renewal through a further ballot. Its 200 or so member businesses will generate just over £750,000 p.a. through the BID levy and will actively seek further funding from other sources.
