Full time. 1 year (with possibility of extension)
Main responsibility
Nurturing new and existing services at Pembroke House to meet the unmet needs of the residential community in Walworth, to bring people together, and to boost the capacity of Pembroke House to access sources of funding currently unavailable to us.
Principal duties
1. Lead the development and delivery of an East Walworth community audit to find out who the local community (residential, service providers) are, what services residents need and want, and what services already exist.
2. Network with key organisations and individuals in Walworth and beyond to identify potential partnerships and partners, leading to them running projects at Pembroke House in partnership with Pembroke House. Embed Pembroke House into the local voluntary sector community.
3. Identify new project activities for Pembroke House to meet unmet needs. With the Projects Director, work up project specifications, source potential funders, apply for and achieve funding.
4. Undertake outreach work with leaders of projects to promote Pembroke House to new service users.
5. Lead the Pembroke House team in preparing and presenting an annual impact report for Pembroke House.
6. Work with leaders of projects to put in place annual operational plans, guiding the development of each project. Review plans quarterly.
7. Work with project leaders to update their monitoring activities and support them to use the data to improve their projects.
8. Build on and manage the fledgling volunteer programme including recruiting volunteers, being the first point of contact for volunteers, advising project leaders on volunteering matters and co-ordinating the reward of volunteers.
Occasional duties
1. Stand in for project workers / leaders at short notice.
2. Travel to Cambridge to meet with members of Pembroke College and Pembroke House’s trustees.
3. Attend Pembroke House meetings, including the Annual General Meeting in Cambridge and monthly team meetings held in the evenings.
Essential
1. Knowledge and experience of developing and managing local projects from initiation through to outcome
2. Knowledge of project monitoring and evaluation techniques
3. Experience of communicating with a range of different audiences
4. A flexible, entrepreneurial approach
5. Confidence in dealing with difficult people
6. Ability to manage competing demands/priorities
7. Ability to work in a small team including paid and unpaid members of staff
8. Experience of getting people who you don’t manage to do things for you, including volunteers
9. Ability to represent Pembroke House on local fora and networks
10. Ability to attend occasional meetings / events outside of normal office hours
11. Be committed to the Equal Opportunities Policy of Pembroke House
12. Be sympathetic to the Christian ethos of Pembroke House
Desirable
1. Proven experience of raising funding from charitable trusts, private donors or businesses
2. Knowledge of techniques for monitoring and evaluating projects whose participants are children or learning disabled adults
3. Experience of working as a volunteer
Conditions of Service
A probationary period of three months will apply before the appointment is confirmed.
The post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure with the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions) applies.
