The hugely popular yet loss-making London Eye observation wheel on the South Bank could be forced to raise more than £100 million to pay off loans from its main financial backer British Airways. Visitor numbers this year have slumped by half a million.
The London Eye has been basked in a bright red glow to publicise this year's Poppy Appeal, and the front of the Shell Centre in Belvedere Road has been transformed with images of red poppies tumbling down the side of the building.
Installation has begun in the trees lining the South Bank to create Shell Electric Storm, a stunning event of colour, light, mist and sound that will be powered entirely by renewable energy.
