alboreto I don't relish the traffic and delays of the new Elephant & Castle layout, but lets not forget this was done to prevent people DYING.
TfLTrafficNews Congestion on all approaches to Elephant & Castle. Delays impacting Newington Butts, Walworth Rd, New Kent Rd, Old Kent Rd & Borough High St
chriswils45 Hoping the traffic around Elephant and Castle isn't this bad all week. It's taken 80 minutes to travel less than 4 miles...
TfLBusAlerts Buses in the Elephant & Castle area are delayed up to 45 minutes due to ongoing roadworks.
@zefrog yes - the effects seem to have been displaced to other roads
@lizetta difference from last week is that E&C itself was at standstill then. New layout working but not fast enough to meet demand.
frogli Call me suspicious but I'm not convinced that new Elephant & Castle road layout is unrelated to fact that this bus hasn't moved in 40 mins!
As recently as 2011 TfL resisted calls to remove Elephant & Castle roundabout on grounds it wd "interfere with the traffic flow too greatly"
@HannahAlOthman yes that's fine - no problem with use of embed function.
@HannahAlOthman no, sorry.

@mreys not saying it's ok - just different phenomenon from recent days during roadworks when junction itself has been gridlocked.
@RachaelParkman new layout not 100% finished - plus ppl probably moving slower thru junction while they get familiar with the changes
Traffic seems to be moving reasonably well through the E&C junction itself - it's just the capacity reduction means tailbacks elsewhere.

drbenjohnson Very slow traffic at Elephant and Castle this morning - and it's only 630am! The two way traffic may take a while to get used to....
