Major revamp for London Bridge station?

Railtrack has unveiled a £400 million plan to redevelop London Bridge station - if the controversial Thameslink 2000 project - set to radically alter the character of Borough Market - gets the go-ahead.

The work, which would start in 2002 and be completed in 2006, would involve a huge expansion in the ciruclation area at the crowded station. Shops and office space would also be created by the development, which would be contained within the existing site. A supermarket (something currently lacking in the Bankside area) is expected to figure in the new retail area.

The plans are on public display in a caravan at London Bridge bus station 10am to 7pm until 28 January.
