Abbey National Merger

Although SE1 is an area with numerous launch events as businesses move in, Abbey National has made the surprise decision to merge two of its SE1 branches.

The recently refurbished Lower Marsh branch closes this month despite protests that the Elephant & Castle branch is not convenient for Waterloo businesses and residents. The announcement came as the former building society reported a 19 per cent rise in its 1998 pre-tax profits.
