Cyclists wanted for Pacific Highway ride

BY FRANCIS JAMES, BANKSIDE PRESS

Fancy cycling along the Pacific Coast Highway from Los Angeles to San Francisco? Then the Peper Harrow Foundation would like to hear from you. The Foundation, based above the Fire Station restaurant in Waterloo Road, provides care and education for emotionally damaged children and seriously dsyfunctional families.

Two sponsored trips are planned, the first in October 1999 and another in June 2000. Participants are asked to raise £2000, but Fundraising Manager Rosemary Torrington stresses "The reward is lasting personal achievement. This ride will not only change your life, but will also make a difference to someone's future."

Cyclists on the route, endorsed by Chris Boardman, will see Hollywood, Santa Barbara, and Monterey. The end of the tour will be marked by a triumphant passage through the Golden Gate Bridge and a blowout meal at a San Francisco restaurant. The ride is "beginner friendly" - daily mileages are kept down to a level suitable for all cyclists.
