London Open House 1999
The third weekend of September is now firmly established in the calendar as the time for London Open House, an annual celebration of London's architecture. Open House gives free entry to over 450 buildings of architectural merit across London. This year the Diocese of Southwark is also encouraging all of its churches to be open for visitors on Saturday 18 September, 103 days before the Millennium. Bishop of Southwark Rt Rev Tom Butler says "Just before I walked into the Cathedral for my Enthronement the Verger shouted out 'let the doors be opened'." For security reasons many churches are normally kept locked and Bishop Butler is "excited by the prospect of a day when every door in the Diocese will be open and when we will be able to welcome everybody in."
The complete Open House directory is available at libraries or on the Web at www.londonopenhouse.org
