Design Museum 10th Anniversary

Ten years ago, when people were still afraid to go "south of the River", the Design Museum opened its doors on Butler's Wharf. Since then over 1.1 million visitors have passed through its galleries.

On Thursday 21 October the museum's tenth anniversary will be celebrated by offering free admission to all visitors, with a chance to see the museum's new exhibition Design: Process, Progress, Practice which is described as a manifesto for the museum in its anniversary year. It is also a blueprint for the museum's plans for a Design Process Gallery. BBC GLR 94.9 will be making live broadcasts throughout the day and a number of celebrities will be talking about their favourite designs.

Culture Secretary Chris Smith says: "I admire the Design Museum's work greatly, particularly its exhibitions and educational work and I see it as a very important bridge between the world of museums and the world of the creative industries".
