Millennium Bridge: the saga continues

The Millennium Bridge is likely to remain closed until summer 2002.

There are growing doubts that the proposed 5m remedy for the mysterious wobble can solve the problem.

It now being suggested that The Queen, who was persuaded to 'open' the bridge before its completion, may find the real opening taking place during her 50th Jubilee Year celebrations.

Initial tests are expected to be completed early in 2001 and any new work could take at least six months.
