CAMRA praise for SE1 pubs

London SE1 website team

The 2005 CAMRA Good Beer Guide includes seven SE1 pubs among Britain's 4,500 best real ale pubs.

The 32nd edition of the guide, compiled by the Campaign for Real Ale, looks at not only the beer quality but also the food and building.

The Lord Clyde in Clennam Street is called "a gem of a back street pub" and "attractive architecturally" whilst the Royal Oak in Tabard Street is awarded the title "jewel of the Borough".

In Tower Bridge Road both the Bridge House, now Adnams only London pub, and Wetherspoon's Pommelers Rest are included.

Also mentioned is the Duke of York, on the corner of Borough Road and Southwark Bridge Road, which is now a Shepherd Neame house after being a popular Goose & Firkin.

The constanly changing range of beer at the Borough Market's Market Porter is called "impressive".

The only pub on the Lambeth side of SE1 to get a mention is the King's Arms in Roupell Street.
