Man dies after South Bank attacks

A man has died and at least four others have been injured in a series of violent attacks within minutes of each other on the South Bank.

The 37-year-old victim died in hospital. Police are linking the assaults which took place between Hungerford Bridge and Westminster Bridge within minutes of each other early on Saturday.

At about 3.15am a 35-year-old man was hit on the head as he sat on a bench in Jubilee Gardens. Shortly afterwards two men in their twenties were attacked near Hungerford Bridge.

Fifteen minutes later the 37-year-old man was fatally injured near the Royal Festival Hall. A 29-year-old man suffered minor injuries in the same attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Scola, said: "We are very keen to talk to anyone who witnessed any of the attacks or anyone else who may have been assaulted in similar circumstances."
