London SE1 website team

Antiques Roadshow expert Henry Sandon came to the Florence Nightingale Museum on a mercy mission last week to help the museum to save Florence Nightingale's pet owl Athena.

The owl, which was stuffed 150 years ago, was Florence Nightingale's favourite pet for four years prior to the Crimean War, often travelling in her pocket.

Now the Bronte Porcelain Company of Malvern, Worcestershire – of which Henry Sandon is a director – has produced a Lady with the Lamp porcelain candle extinguisher.  This historically accurate figurine is dedicated to the Save Athena Campaign – each piece is inscribed underneath with these words.

A percentage of the sales of the Florence Nightingale candle extinguisher will be donated to the Florence Nightingale Museum's Save Athena Appeal.
