The Olympic marathon would begin at Tower Bridge if London's bid to host the 2012 games is successful, it was announced on Wednesday.
London 2012 bid chairman Lord Coe said the route was designed to "include as many of the city's landmarks as possible". The settings would "create lasting memories and moments for the athletes, spectators, television audiences and the Olympic Movement".
The proposed route – almost exclusively on the north bank – will offer views of many SE1 landmarks, including the London Eye, Tate Modern and City Hall.
