Porpoises spotted from Albert Embankment

London SE1 website team

Crowds gathered on Albert Embankment on Friday to watch a family of harbour porpoises as they feasted on Thames fish near Vauxhall Bridge.

Two adult and one baby porpoise playfully showed off as they lunched for more than five hours close to Vauxhall Bridge.

Staff at the International Fund for Animal Welfare, currently running a Protect our Porpoises campaign, enjoyed a clear view from their Albert Embankment offices.

"They were going in a zig-zagging motion, coming up to the surface and diving down and eating all the fish there," IFAW staff member Tania Mccrea Steele told PA News.
"People were quite enthusiastic about it because you don't expect to see porpoises in the River Thames and to have them this far up the river is very unusual."
