Staff at Barclays Bank in Borough High Street have been raising funds for MediCinema by braving the January weather to walk across four London bridges on a Saturday afternoon.

They started at 2pm on Blackfriars Bridge and passed through three London boroughs to finish at Lambeth Bridge at 4pm, where they were greeted by the charity's chief executive for refreshments at MediCinema, the on-site cinema for patients from Guy's & St Thomas' Hospitals.

MediCinema installs cinemas in hospitals, bringing the therapeutic benefits of a true cinema experience to those who would not normally be able to enjoy the magic of the silver screen in any other way.

"At Barclays we are committed to communities and we are delighted to support MediCinema," said Gilbert Barnwell from Barclays London Bridge. "This is a lovely example of local staff working closely with the local community to achieve something which we hope will make a real difference to the hospital patients. The sponsorship we raise from this walk will be matched by Barclays under our employee community programme. It has been great fun arranging this event – a great reason to get fit for the new year! ".

MediCinema founder Christine Hill added: "It's great that the employees of Barclays Bank are supporting us in this way, we really appreciate it – on behalf of the patients of Guy's and St. Thomas' huge, huge thanks. The funds raised will sponsor our patient screenings – Barclays will get to choose which films from our programme they want to sponsor – probably not the ones that feature cops and robbers!"
