Southwark Council is inviting locals to send in their 'postcards from Southwark' as part of a borough-wide photography competition with over GBP 700 of cash prizes to be won.
Organised through the community councils, the competition has the theme of 'postcards from Southwark'.
Photos could be a vibrant view of a Southwark summer festival, one of the borough's iconic historic or modern buildings, a bustling open-air market, a riverside scene or a colourful character you know.
"We hope this competition will encourage people to get out and explore new areas, or see the places they pass every day in a different light," said council leader Nick Stanton. "Southwark is one of the most vibrant, historic and culturally diverse parts of the country so budding photographers should find plenty to work with."
The competition is open to everyone and has three categories: over-18s, under-18s plus a mobile phone category.
All photos must be received by 1 December 2005.
Judges from Camberwell College of Arts, London College of Communication, Shakespeare's Globe and Southwark Council will select the best pictures.
There will be a prize-giving ceremony and an exhibition of the winning entries at Shakespeare's Globe in January 2006.
