Pictures by Peter Simmonds

A temporary French market has opened in Lower Marsh.

A wide range of stalls from France assembled early on Saturday morning ready for the two day event in the Waterloo market street behind the station.

There is a boulangerie and patisserie and a large selction of biscuits. The large cheese stall is selling four cheeses for £5. There are also big displays of garlic and tomatoes.

The wine stall is offering free tastings. Non-food includes berets, rugs and perfume.

Also present are the regular Saturday fruit and vegetable stalls outside Iceland.

The special weekend market on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 October is an initiative which has been encouraged by Lower Marsh People.

• The French Market is open until 6pm on both days.
