SE1 schools will be holding fun-packed events, trips and classroom activities next week as part of national Walk to School Week.
SE1-based artist Andrew Logan will be opening the week's events in the morning assembly at Friars Primary School in Webber Street on Monday 20 May and Jenny Jones, Green Group Member of the London Assembly, will be visiting the school's 'Crocodiles and Cakes' event on Thursday.
Walk to School Week is a national campaign aiming to encourage children to improve their health and the environment. The campaign is co-ordinated by the National Travelwise Association and The Pedestrians' Association with input from local authorities and businesses
The 'school run' makes up a significant part of rush-hour traffic, in turn, causing congestion, pollution and danger outside many schools. This campaign encourages parents and children to alleviate these problems by walking to school together – this activity helps reduce parents' risks of heart disease as well!
Other Southwark schools taking part in the week's events include Grange Primary School.
