Southwark Cyclists, the 500-strong local branch of the London Cycling Campaign, has organised a busy programme of events across the borough, including several in SE1.
Southwark Cyclists meet for a light after work ride along the Thames Path stretch of the London Cycle Network; meet 6.30pm, Southwark Needle, south side, London Bridge; a table to be booked at inexpensive local cafe/restaurant for those who want to eat together afterwards.
meet 7am at the Island Cafe, Southwark Bridge Road, special guest Simon Hughes MP!
2am (YES, 2AM!) – the legendary Solstice Ride – meet at 2am under the Southwark Needle on the South side of London Bridge. Southwark Cyclists join cyclists from other borough groups to ride through the City at night, to Soho for coffees and then up Primrose Hill to watch the sun come up on the longest day
10am, south side Tower Bridge – a novel way of discovering London; come and join cyclists from Lambeth, Southwark, Westminster, Tower Hamlets, and others on a ride crossing the central bridges over the Thames, starting and ending at Tower Bridge and going as far as Chelsea Bridge. It is hoped this event will initiate a campaign focusing on provision for cyclists on the bridges. Wherever possible cycle routes will be used.
