A 39-year-old man was killed in a traffic collision at the junction of Lambeth Road and Kennington Road in the early hours of Saturday morning.
At about 1.45am on Saturday a red Ford Mondeo travelling south along Kennington Road was in collision with a silver Mercedes Vito van travelling east on Lambeth Road.
The Ford – a licensed minicab – contained a driver and two passengers. One of the passengers suffered whiplash and was taken to St Thomas' Hospital.
The Mercedes was carrying a driver and three passengers. One of the passengers travelling in a rear seat of the van, a 39-year-old man, was taken to St Thomas' where he was pronounced dead. Another passenger remains in hospital with minor injuries.
The Hampton Collision Investigation Unit is investigating. Any witnesses are
asked to call officers there on 020 8941 9011.
Both drivers – a 59-year-old man and a 43-year-old man – were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and are being interviewed at Kennington police station just yards away from the scene of the collision.
