Four new food and drink establishments in SE1 have been shortlisted for the Time Out Eating and Drinking Awards 2007.
The Rake – which only opened a year ago in Borough Market's Winchester Walk – is one of five nominated for the Best Bar Award.
Another new venture, Magdalen in Tooley Street, is up against the National Gallery restaurant in the Best British category. Skylon in the just refurbished Royal Festival Hall is nominated for Best Design along with five others including Heal's Meals.
Tate Modern Café Level 2, which has been open the longest, has stiff competition for Best Family Restaurant where the other finalists include the Isle of Dog's Mudchute Kitchen and Pick More Daises in Crouch End.
Time Out's reviewers are anonymously visiting the finalists before deciding which venue deserves to win. Criteria for assessment include service, ambience, value for money, quality of ingredients used, taste and presentation of dishes, as well as the diversity and standard of wines and drinks on offer.
The winners will be announced in September. Last year's winners included The Table in Southwark Street.
