A thriller novel partly set in SE1 has been shortlisted for the Booker Prize.
Fingersmith by Sarah Walters tells of a relationship between a group of people living in Lant Street during the 19th century. The first chapter features St George's Circus and makes immediate use of the author's careful historical research to give a flavour of life in Blackfriars Road. Part of the story is set upstream on the Thames.
There are five authors shortlisted with William Trevor the 9/4 favourite for The Story of Lucy Gault. Fingersmith is 5/1.
The winner of the £50,000 prize will be announced on 22 October.
