Southwark goes ecumenical in Norfolk

Marion Marples

100 pilgrims from the Roman Catholic St George's Cathedral and Southwark's Anglican Cathedral at London Bridge enjoyed a day pilgrimage together in the small Norfolk village of Walsingham.

Together they discovered the history and traditions of the shrine of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Later they walked, sang and prayed along the mile separating the Anglican and RC churches, watched by some incredulous sheep and holding up the local traffic. While coachloads of protestors were making their way towards London for the day the pilgrims were moved to find they were praying as they passed RAF Lakenheath.
