A murder inquiry has been launched after a teenager from Cooper's Road SE1 was stabbed to death in Plumstead.
Police and the ambulance service were called to Invermore Place in SE18 at about 4.15pm on Tuesday to report of a youth suffering stab wounds.
15-year-old Sunday Essiet of Cooper's Road, SE1 was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives believe that Sunday was with friends in a fenced-off football pitch in the middle of a grass area on the Glyndon Estate when they were approached by another group of black males.
An argument followed and Sunday and several friends ran away. He was chased and caught on the edge of the green by Invermore Place and assaulted.
"This incident has taken place in the middle of an estate, with a number of properties overlooking not only the initial incident but the subsequent fatal assault," says Det Supt Phil Adams.
"I am pleased to say that we have already had a large number of people from the local community come forward, but we would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information."
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has any information is asked to call the Incident Room on 020 8721 4868; if you wish to remain anonymous please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
