"Maureen loved the Millennium Green and would be so pleased that her bench is going to be used by many, many people in the future," said Kate Hoey MP at the Waterloo Carnival.

Teacher Maureen Robinson – who died in April 2007 – was a well-known local figure in Waterloo where she used to run a bookshop.

She was involved in many local causes including the campaign for a permanent replacement for the temporary Waterloo Library building.

The new memorial bench at Waterloo Millennium Green carries a plate with the simple message: "for Maureen who liked it here".
