Fifty years ago - on 13 October 1958 - 'A Bear Called Paddington' was first published. To celebrate his birthday Paddington Bear visited the South Bank on Monday.
Paddington took a tour of London in a black cab to meet some of his fans.
His chauffeur was taxi driver Raymond Levy who took him from Aldwych to Paddington Station via Trafalgar Square, the London Eye and Buckingham Palace.
On the South Bank the Peruvian bear went for a walkabout – marmalade sandwich in hand – to greet bemused toddlers.
A new DVD box set of the 1970s TV series is released later this month.
Google.co.uk has adopted a special logo to mark Paddington's birthday.
