Southwark Council and local MPs including Simon Hughes are spearheading a campaign for an extra 200 police officers for Southwark.
On 8 December the MPs for the three consitituencies covering Southwark – including North Southwark and Bermondsey's Simon Hughes – will hand in a petition to the Metropolitan Police asking for police levels in the borough to be raised from 800 to 1,000.
The petition can be signed online on Southwark Council's website
Cllr Richard Porter, Southwark's Executive Member for Community Safety, said: "Feeling secure in your neighbourhood is one of the most important contributors to quality of life.
"It is up to us all to play our part in taking back the streets. Sadly, there will always be a minority who believe crime is a more attractive proposition than working for a living. It's our job to stop them getting away with it. Southwark belongs to all of us.
"I urge everyone to go online and sign our petition. It only takes a few minutes, but the rewards will be enormous."
