National Theatre closed after explosion

London SE1 website team

All performances at the South Bank's National Theatre have been cancelled following a power failure.

Monday's performances of The Relapse and Howard Katz were called off after a minor explosion caused a power failure across the complex.

The Fire Brigade were called out twice to the theatre on Sunday night after a transformer exploded.

A statement issued by the National says: "No-one was hurt but electrical equipment was damaged. Specialists are now assessing the damage to ascertain when power can be restored."
