A 54 year old man from Avondale Square has been sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court to six years in prison after he violently raped a woman at a party in 2008.

Vytautas Jasionis from Avondale Square near the Old Kent Road has also been placed on the sex offenders' register for life and will spend ten years on prison licence once he has served his sentence.

Police were called at about 8am on Sunday 2 November 2008 to a residential address in Ruston Road, SE18. A 32 year old woman alleged that she had been raped earlier that morning by Jasionis.

The victim said that she had attended a small party in Ruston Road with her boyfriend and other friends. At about 4am she was bundled into a room where she was met by Jasionis and was told that if she screamed, both she and her boyfriend would be killed. The victim tried to resist Jasionis but he repeatedly beat her and raped her.

Jasionis forced the victim to sign a note stating she would not tell anyone what had happened to her.

Jasionis was arrested on 9 April at Plumstead police station after he was made aware that officers were trying to trace him. He was charged with rape on 10 April and remanded in custody.

"This was a lengthy investigation and we are pleased with its result," says DC Nic Sargant from the Met Police's Sapphire Unit.

"Jasionis is a violent rapist who subjected his victim to a terrifying ordeal. I would like to praise the victim for her courage and strength and sincerely hope that she will be able to move on."
