Police are warning the public not to approach a dangerous armed robber who escaped from the Crown Court in Borough High Street on Friday 21st February.

Unemployed 30 year old Kevin Smith from south London was convicted of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence. He escaped from the court after being sentenced to 15 years imprisonment. His three co-defendants were convicted of robbery offences and sentenced to 13, 12 and five years imprisonment.
Smith was arrested in June 2002 following inquiries by the Flying Squad. He had been kept in custody since being charged for those offences.

Smith is 5?10, slim build with short dark hair. He has distinctive sharp facial features with a pointed nose.

?We consider Smith to be extremely dangerous and believe he has access to firearms. We re-iterate that he should not be approached? said a police spokesperson.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts should contact police immediately by phoning 999.
