Giant tin can wins sculpture prize

Farouk Campbell

German born artist Gereon Krebber has won the £25,000 Jerwood Sculpture Prize.

The winning proposal "Tin" was unanimously accepted by the judging panel and will be cast in aluminium. This lightweight material, though under used in sculpture, will give the final creation an industrial finish and give the giant sculpture both a glowing and floating appearance. The judges praised "Tin's" beauty and said it will enhance the landscape.

"Tin" is due to be unveiled in the autumn and will be installed at the Jerwood Sculpture Park at Witley Court.

• The Jerwood Sculpture Prize exhibition of entries continues at the Jerwood Space until Sunday 23 March.
