Seven months after his first attempt ended in failure, sculptor Andrew Baldwin brought his Walking Boat back to Bankside on Thursday where a crowd of locals, office workers and tourists watched as the vessel slowly emerged from the water.
The artist has spent the winter refining the design of the boat so that it can lift itself out of the water on the steep Thames foreshore between Blackfriars Railway Bridge and the Millennium Bridge.
Minutes after disembarking, Andrew Baldwin told the London SE1 website that he was "bloody relieved" that the boat had worked as planned.
Last October hundreds of people watched as Baldwin made repeated attempts to bring the boat onto the beach.
