The Tabard Street piazza was blocked on Friday when a mature tree in the grounds of St George the Martyr church crashed to the ground.
The falling tree knocked down a section of the railings which surround the historic church of St George the Martyr and completely blocked the pedestrianised Tabard Street piazza.
Miraculously, no-one was injured.
By chance parish priest Fr Ray Andrews and the two churchwardens were all on the premises and able to respond to the incident at once. They were soon joined by Better Bankside community wardens who taped off the area around the tree and kept guard.
