To celebrate National Poetry Day Southwark Council this week launched its first ever community poem, with the first line coming from Poet Laureate Andrew Motion.
"In Southwark where the river bends its bow…" is the first line of what the council hopes will be the first of its kind. Everyone is invited to add to this free poem. The only criteria is that the subject remains about Southwark and there is an upper limit of 15 words per contribution.
"Poetry is part of life, rather than a wierd addition to it, so it makes complete sense for Southwark to propose this community poem" said Andrew Motion. "Good luck to it."
Participants from all walks of life are encouraged to log on to the council's website to take part.
