London South Bank University has revealed plans to sponsor a specialist engineering academy for secondary school pupils in Walworth.
The proposed University Engineering Academy South Bank will open in September 2014 in the former premises of Walworth School in Trafalgar Street SE17.
The academy – which will specialise in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects – proposes to offer 150 Year 7 places for boys and girls and a 150-place sixth form.
LSBU is running a public consultation on the proposals until Wednesday 12 June.
A drop-in meeting will be held at the school site between 3.30pm and 6.30pm on Friday 24 May.
The recently refurbished school buildings are currently occupied by Sacred Heart School whose own premises in Camberwell are being rebuilt.
The Trafalgar Street site became available when Walworth School became Walworth Academy and merged its upper and lower schools at the Shorncliffe Road campus.
