A man in his thirties was arrested on Thursday after he was detained by brave members of the public following an attempted armed robbery of Barclays Bank in Borough High Street.
Police were called at 1.45pm to reports of an armed robbery at Barclays in Borough High Street.
The suspect entered the bank and threatened the staff with a firearm and demanded that money was handed over.
Desperate to escape the suspect fled the bank empty handed but was apprehended a short while later by members of the public.
The chase included dramatic scenes in the George Inn off Borough High Street.
Officers arrived at the scene and the man was arrested. He was taken to a south London police station.
No shots were fired and no members of the public were injured during the incident.
A weapon has been recovered and will be subjected to expert examination to establish its type.
Police are not actively seeking any other outstanding suspects at this time.
The incident is currently being investigated by detectives from the Tower Bridge flying squad and enquires continue.
