Anti-Bush demonstrations planned for SE1

London SE1 website team

A mock state procession is being planned for SE1 by demonstrators opposed to the State Visit by President George Bush.

The Stop Bush campaign, co-ordinated by the Anti-War Coalition formed to oppose the Iraq War, is organising the procession in Jubilee Gardens.

On the day of the official welcome the protesters are intending to stage the Alternative State Procession complete with a horse-drawn carriage to replace the traditional procession which has been abandoned.

A mock Palace proclamation is calling on demonstrators to “assemble at my Jubilee Gardens, South Bank, London SE1 on the 19th day of November at the hour of 11 o'clock".

Demonstrations are also expected outside the Old Vic on Tuesday evening when
Richard Perle, American Enterprise Institute fellow and former Chairman of the Defence Policy Board, speaks in a debate 'Is the War on Terror on Track?' organised by The Economist magazine.

On Thursday the main protest march will cross Waterloo Bridge into SE1 and follow York Road to approach Whitehall over Westminster Bridge.

Meanwhile extra security is in evidence at nearby Waterloo Station where police have been filming arrivals at the Eurostar platforms.
