Phoenix Primary School could double in size

London SE1 website team

Southwark Council has announced plans to double the size of Phoenix Primary School in Marlborough Grove.

The former Eveline Lowe Primary School was relaunched as Phoenix Primary School two years ago after a £9.7 million rebuilding.

Those works saw the Bermondsey school – previously split between sites east and west of Marlborough Grove – consolidate its classrooms on the eastern campus.

Now the Edwardian building and adjacent land to the west of Marlborough Grove will be used to create space for another two forms of entry.

Phoenix is part of the Mayflower Federation whose executive headteacher, Sir Craig Tunstall, was knighted in the Queen's new year honours list.

Under plans to be approved by Southwark's cabinet next week, Phoenix will expand from two to four forms of entry in September 2015 with the extra classes accommodated in temporary buildings before the permanent facilities are completed for autumn 2016.
